Mostar and Medugorje –

a place where the west meets the east

Private tour to Mostar Medjugorje from Split, from your hotel or villa.

After picking you up at the pre-arranged meeting point, we’ll begin our journey with a drive through the border between the Dalmatian coast and the hinterland. We’ll stop for a visit to enjoy its famous Blue and Red lakes on our way to the ancient Ottoman city of Mostar. Here our local tour guide introduces us to the great history of this city known as “the window to the Orient”. We’ll visit the Old Bazaar, full of picturesque shops and craft workshops, and the Mosque. After this, we’ll enjoy a walk along the famous Turkish bridge from the 16thC and you’ll have lots of free time for exciting shopping and the opportunity to taste authentic Bosnian specialties like cevapi, pita or burek. Then it’s off to experience the wild beauty of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the walled town of Pocitel, a UNESCO World Heritage site on our way to our final destination, one of the most-visited pilgrimage centers in all of Europe – Medjugorje. For believers and those who are looking for spiritual renewal, the most compelling site here is the Mount of Appearance where Virgin Mary is reported to have appeared to children in 1981 for the first time. Our tour guide will help you understand and appreciate why this place of peace and compassion has become such a world-wide destination for pilgrims. As an option, you may also enjoy some wonderful swimming in nearby Kravice waterfalls. After this beautiful experience we return home.

Take a peek to the Orient!

Your private guide will show you the secrets of Mostar, a city where any traveler is able to feel the collision of completely contrasting cultures that have been coexisting in this area for centuries. A comfortable drive along the coastline will take us through Omiš and Makarska Riviera where you will see the beautiful Neretva River Delta. Our first stop will be Počitelj, a well-preserved example of oriental architecture located on a hillside over the river. Here you will have some free time before we continue our adventure, following the Neretva River, until we reach Mostar. Coming to Mostar from the south you will leave the light Mediterranean air behind to meet the sharp continental environments. This UNESCO city is also known as “a window to the Orient” due to its historical significance as an important trade center in the time of the Turkish rule. With our guide, you will visit the oriental part of the city and take a walk across the historic Old Bridge, the colorful Old Bazaar with traditional handicrafts and traditional Turkish houses. Feel free to admire the exceptional dwellings and monuments while explore them during your free time. You can also shop for handmade local crafts or sit by the river in one of many restaurants to taste the typical food and enjoy the view. With the inside informations that you’ll get from your private guide, you’ll feel like a local! In the late afternoon, we will leave Mostar and return to the seaside across the Biokovo Mountain. At this point, don’t forget to take out your cameras to capture the ravishing view at the central Dalmatian coastline and islands. If you wish to alter this itinerary in any way, feel free to contact us!
